Battle Screen
"I'm ready to fight! Now...how do I do that?" Great question!
- This is your Planeswalker's Portrait and your hand (closed). You can see which Planeswalker you're playing as, as well as the remaining health it has. With your hand closed you can still see how many cards you have as well as which type of card it is.
Clicking your Planeswalker’s Portrait will open a screen containing the Planeswalker abilities, the description, the level, Loyalty cost. In addition, the progression bar of Loyalty points is shown along with the Mana Gain Bonus for each gem color. The same can be said for your opponent's Planeswalker Portrait, as well.
- These are indicators showing you which of your Planeswalker's abilities you currently have enough Loyalty to activate.
-
Top to Bottom: First ability, Second ability, and Third ability. (They will start appearing, one-by-one gradually, once you match Loyalty gems on the board.)
- This is your hand. Each turn, when you draw a card, this is where it goes. You can see a basic outline of which cards are in your hand, but swiping right on it will expand and open up your hand. You can also expand your opponent's hand; however their cards will be hidden.
We will discuss more about player hands further below.
- This is the battlefield where Creatures reside.
Unlike in tabletop Magic: the Gathering, you can only have 3 unique Creatures on the field. This might seem restricting however in Puzzle Quest the copies of Creatures you summon stack on top of each other to increase their Power and Toughness. (Essentially Puzzle Quest goes the quality vs quantity route.)
(The same creature, cast 3 times)
At the end of your turn, Creatures you control that don't have Summoning Sickness will automatically attack your opponent's Planeswalker directly.
- This is the gem board where you make all of your matches. Matching 3 of the same color gem will grant you 3 Mana of that color (+/- your Planeswalker's Mana Bonuses). Matching 4 in a row will also destroy the entire row or column it's in, depending on the direction you make the match. Matching 5 in a row will grant you an extra turn!
After you make a match, your Creatures will attack, and then your turn ends.
- This is a Support gem. These are created by casting Support cards, which you can read about HERE.
Player Hand
This is where you can find all the cards you are able to cast each turn. This is also where drawn cards go. Your hand can only contain a maximum of 6 cards. If you have 6 cards in your hand at the beginning of your turn, you will be unable to draw a card.
- This icon not only gives you a quick, at-a-glance identifier as to the type of card it is and its Rarity, but also shows you how much Mana you need to collect in order to cast it. Cards will automatically cast once they acquire enough Mana.
Note that Mana fills from the top-most card moving downwards, so if you want a different card to gain Mana first, then you'll want to move that card to the top. How do you move cards, you might ask? That brings us to the next topic!
- Players can re-arrange cards in their hand by clicking and holding the = sign to the left of a card.
- If you wish to discard a card from your hand, click and drag that card to Black Hole icon (Exile area).
- If you wish to Disable a card so that it doesn't automatically cast once it's 100% filled with Mana, then click on the card's icon. This will darken the icon color, signifying it is Disabled.
