There are two different ways that an opposing player will engage with you: Normal Battles and Retaliation Battles. When a player attacks you in a Normal Battle, they fight the last team you won a match with. If you beat an opposing team and that player attacks you back (a Retaliation Battle), that player will fight against the team you beat their team with.
